Join us for a day celebrating community and culture at Samuel P. Taylor State Park
SACRAMENTO — California State Parks and presenting partners California State Parks Foundation, Parks California and Save the Redwoods League are inviting the media and public to the kickoff of the fourth annual California State Parks Week on Wednesday, June 11, at Samuel P. Taylor State Park.

Media will also be able to experience California State Parks Week activities and tours of the park, as a showcase of what visitors love about California State Parks. Across the state, more than 170 events will be happening for California State Parks Week.

WHAT: California State Parks Week Kickoff
WHO: State and local leaders, including State Parks Director Armando Quintero, along with partner organizations, will be available for interviews about California State Parks Week and the theme of “This is Where You Live.” Partners include the California State Parks Foundation, Parks California, Save the Redwoods League, and others.
WHEN: Wednesday, June 11
- 8 -11 a.m.: Media availability
Activities include tai chi, mural painting, camp games, intro to birding, redwood hikes and community partner tables. - 8:30-9 a.m.: Guided Redwood Walk
- 9:15-10 a.m.: Tai Chi in the Redwoods
- 10-11 a.m.: Intro to Birding Walk along Cross Marin Trail
- Beginning at 11 a.m.: Public event begins with the above activities as well as photos with The Lorax

Taylor State Park’s 2,882 acres offer shady strolls through the stately redwoods along Lagunitas Creek as well as exhilarating hikes to the topofBarnabe Peak, one of the best viewpoints in Marin County. You can camp among redwoods, bike along the creek, explore easy-to-moderate hiking trails, watch salmon spawn, relax in the shady picnic area and learn the story of its namesake pioneer.
From the redwood forests on the North Coast to the sunny beaches in Southern California, 280 park units preserve and protect the best of California’s natural and cultural history, from natural features and ecosystems to historic structures and cultural resources. This year’s California State Parks Week tagline is “This is where you live” and celebrates California’s 175th anniversary of statehood.
