SACRAMENTO — California State Parks and partners will be celebrating the fifth annual California State Parks Week with special events at state parks throughout the Inland Empire and Desert regions beginning Wednesday, June 10. Presented by California State Parks, California State Parks Foundation, Parks California and Save the Redwoods League, this exciting celebration will feature special programs and activities highlighting the incredible diversity of the nation’s largest state park system.

INLAND EMPIRE AND DESERT EVENTS:
Wednesday, June 10
Water and Watersheds at Silverwood Lake State Recreation Area: Meet up at Silverwood Lake Campfire Center for a fun Junior Ranger program to explore with hands-on activities how water and watersheds in the San Bernardino Mountains support climate resilience in the Inland Empire mountain ranges. All supplies will be provided.
Friday, June 12
Scorpion Spotting at Ocotillo Wells State Vehicular Recreation Area: Step into the night for an exciting hands-on scorpion search using black lights! As darkness falls, participants will explore the Nature Trail area to discover scorpions glowing an eerie blue-green in the dark.
Saturday, June 13
Celebrate Indigenous Culture at Lake Perris State Recreation Area: Learn about and celebrate local Indigenous cultures at the Lakeside Pavilion where you’ll meet representatives of local tribal communities and participate in family-friendly activities. The Ya’i Heki’ Regional Indian Museum also will be open for further exploration.
Ancestral Citrus: A People’s Journey at California Citrus State Historic Park: Explore the citrus museum with a self-guided scavenger hunt through time where you can gather information and collect stamps while learning about California’s history of citrus.
Explore Nocturnal Life at Anza-Borrego Desert State Park: Learn how the desert comes alive at night as we search for desert life and look for the glow of scorpions.
Endless Observations at Ocotillo Wells State Vehicle Recreation Area: Enjoy an immersive, stargazing experience under an (almost) new moon, when the sky is at its darkest. Using high-powered telescopes, participants will explore the sky’s wonders, slow down, look up and connect with the vast beauty beyond our world.
Sunday, June 14
Guided Habitat Hike at Chino Hills State Park: Connect with the land and learn how humans work together to create a legacy of preservation on a 1-mile, moderate, guided hike through chaparral and riparian habitat, and a stop for birdwatching at our favorite shady nook.
Sketching Mt. San Jacinto State Park: Learn how to capture beautiful mountain scenery onto paper as part of this relaxed, short and accessible hike. Participants will stop at various scenic points along the Discovery Nature Trail and learn simple techniques for sketching elements of the forest focusing on pines, boulders and shading.
